Why Insider’s Guide?
Anne’s idea for Insider’s Guide to Aalborg was originally born from her interactions with professionals from all walks of life.
Through her profession as a writer and translator, Anne would speak to employers, international employees and international students. During these conversations, many would mention to Anne that as a new resident in Denmark, it can be tough to settle in and feel at ease, both in and outside of work. Small things like linguistic and cultural quirks, unspoken rules or everyday practical obstacles leave many feeling left behind, isolated or othered.
Insider’s Guide to Aalborg was created as a helping hand, guiding internationals in Denmark through the practical, social and cultural challenges that arise when trying to find your feet in a new country and city.
Johanne and Muffy joined the team to help bring Insider’s Guide to Aalborg into the world, and work tirelessly with researching and distilling down important and complex topics into easily read and fun guides.
Our goal is to function as your friend on the inside, giving you everything you need to thrive in your new city - welcome to Aalborg!
Meet the team
Anne
The ideator behind Insider's Guide to Aalborg is Anne Bloksgaard Nielsen, owner of ABNI Communications.
She has worked as a freelance translator and writer in Aalborg since 2007, and her clients include a wide range of public and private companies - often with international employees.
She is 'born and bred' in the Aalborg area and holds a deep love for the city - and a passion to share all the city has to offer with you.
Johanne
Johanne is an Aalborg local and a writer with a broad background in Danish and English languages, culture and communications.
In her writing, Johanne is passionate about making complex topics fun and accessible.
Muffy
Muffy is an accomplished American fiction and non-fiction writer, who functions as the glue between internationals and Denmark.
Having lived in multiple places through her life, she now sees Denmark and especially Aalborg as her second home.
With her expertise and cultural profile, Muffy spots all the quirks about Denmark and Aalborg that Danish locals take for granted.
In her writing, her insights from different cultures function to bridge the otherwise invisible cultural divides.
